Your first day in Accra: less rushing, more arriving
Prepare for your first day in Accra with an airport pickup checklist, luggage and waiting-charge questions, and a calm arrival plan.

Overview
A calm arrival starts before take-off. Here is what to confirm for your pickup, your first journey and a first day that leaves room to settle in.

## Plan the first journey, not the whole holiday
After a flight, even small decisions can feel surprisingly tiring. Your first day in Ghana does not need a packed itinerary. It needs a clear destination, an agreed pickup plan and enough flexibility to settle in.
Start with the journey from Kotoka International Airport to your accommodation. Then leave room for the parts of arrival that cannot be scheduled precisely.
## Send the details that make a pickup work
When arranging a [private airport transfer](/airport-transfers), share more than the time you expect to land:
- Flight number and travel date. - Arrival or departure time, with any overnight date change made clear. - Full destination address and a location pin if available. - Number of passengers, including children. - Luggage count, including unusually large bags. - A contact number you can use on arrival.
A vehicle that looks right for the passenger count may not have enough room for the luggage. Explain both before choosing.
## Confirm these points before flying
Ask for the final vehicle and quote, pickup instructions and driver details. Clarify any waiting or night charges and how delays will be handled for your booking. Do not assume a particular waiting period or extra service is included unless it appears in the agreed terms.
Save the pickup instructions and accommodation address where you can reach them without an internet connection. If plans change, use the agreed contact channel rather than hoping the original arrangement will still fit.
## Be realistic about the road journey
Do not plan a fixed airport-to-accommodation time around a map estimate alone. Road conditions and traffic affect travel, and the destination matters: different parts of Greater Accra make for very different arrival journeys.
If you are staying at Casa Maite, your destination is Ayalolo Top in Bortianor. The studios are not at the airport or on the beachfront. [Check the location](/location) and confirm directions with the team before arrival.
If you have a same-day meeting or an onward journey, mention it when planning your transfer and allow extra margin. A flexible first day is usually more comfortable than one that depends on every stage happening at exactly the expected time.
## A gentle first-day rhythm
**First: arrive and get settled.** Confirm access arrangements with your accommodation in advance, especially if your flight lands late.
**Next: deal with essentials.** Check how you will stay in contact, keep your important details accessible and make sure tomorrow’s transport is clear.
**Then: choose one small plan.** A meal, a family visit or simply a quiet evening can be enough. Leave the bigger outings until you know how you feel after the journey.
If you will work during your stay, confirm connectivity before travelling. At Casa Maite, WiFi is optional rather than an automatically included amenity.
## Arrival transport and the rest of your visit are different decisions
An airport transfer solves one journey. A busy week of appointments, family visits or touring may call for a different arrangement. [Compare vehicle and chauffeur options](/mobility) once you know your regular destinations, or ask for a combined travel plan instead of assuming an airport pickup includes ongoing transport.
