La Casa Maite

Seven days in Ghana, without trying to do everything.

A realistic seven-day Ghana planning example linking Accra, Cape Coast, Elmina and Kakum, with space for arrivals, rest and private touring.

Seven days in Ghana, without trying to do everything.

For seven days in Ghana, focus on Accra and the Central Region coast, with an optional Eastern Region outing. Use Accra and a coastal overnight base to reduce repeated drives. This is a planning example, not a scheduled departure: adjust it to flights, interests, access needs and confirmed site operations before booking.

Days 1–2: arrive gently and get to know Accra

On day one, arrange a transfer to your confirmed accommodation and leave room for airport formalities and rest. Share your flight details, luggage and local contact method in advance. Avoid putting a prepaid timed activity immediately after an international arrival. If you arrive early and feel well rested, a short local introduction can be discussed rather than promised in advance.

Use day two for an Accra experience shaped around a small number of interests. History, contemporary art, markets and food each deserve time. Decide which museums or neighbourhood visits matter most, then allow your guide to plan a sensible sequence around traffic and opening arrangements. Keep a relaxed evening so the following day's westbound journey does not start with an exhausted party.

Days 3–4: take time for Cape Coast and Elmina

Travel west to the Central Region on day three and base yourself on the coast for the next two nights, subject to accommodation arrangements. Reserve time for one substantial heritage visit rather than expecting every major site on the transfer day. Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle are associated with the history of European trade and the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved people; their interpretation can be emotionally demanding.

On day four, visit the second town or choose more unhurried time at one location, with local life and rest around it. Agree the stops with your guide and give every family member the option of a slower afternoon. If Assin Manso is important to your heritage journey, plan it explicitly and consider adding a day rather than quietly inserting another long visit.

Day 5: choose a Kakum visit, then return to Accra

Kakum National Park lies inland from Cape Coast. A morning nature visit can complement the coastal heritage days before the return journey to Accra, provided the agreed timing and road conditions make that sensible. The canopy walkway involves height and movement; discuss your comfort and access needs beforehand. Ask about ground-level alternatives rather than feeling obliged to join every activity.

Allow the rest of the day for the drive and a quiet evening. If your party wants a longer forest visit, photography time or extra stops, stay another coastal night and revise the itinerary. An enjoyable trip does not depend on covering the maximum number of places each day.

Days 6–7: leave space for your own interests and departure

Day six can be a relaxed Accra day or a separately planned trip towards Aburi's gardens and hills. Choose one direction rather than combining the Eastern Region with a major Volta journey. Travellers more interested in craft, art or food can use this day for a focused private visit instead. Keep a weather alternative and confirm any specialist appointment before treating it as booked.

On day seven, plan around your flight and the airport transfer buffer agreed with your driver. For a shorter stay, remove an outing rather than compressing the same route. For a longer stay, consider adding an Ashanti, Volta or northern chapter with its own transport and overnight plan; those are extensions, not convenient additions to an Accra afternoon.

How can this example become my actual itinerary?

Send the team your flight dates, number and ages of travellers, preferred stay standard and must-see places. Confirm which nights, meals, transfers and activities are included. Every confirmed Casa Maite tour includes its private vehicle and driver, route fuel, guide and all mandatory fees at its listed stops. The team confirms arrangements and the final quote before payment; this example does not reserve accommodation or site access.

Is this a bookable seven-day departure?

No. It is a planning example. Share your dates and party details so the team can confirm the route, accommodation, access arrangements, inclusions and final quote before payment.

Can I include Mole National Park in the same week?

Mole needs a northern travel plan, commonly using Tamale as the departure base. For seven days, consider replacing part of the southern route and allowing the necessary connections rather than adding it to this itinerary.

Must I do the Kakum canopy walkway?

No. Discuss heights, mobility needs and possible alternatives with the team. A suitable nature visit depends on access arrangements and conditions for your dates.
